In December, when the winter had started to show some of its flavour, a friend of mine and me, went on a visit to Biharinath. After a, now routine, breakfast of
Chae and
Alu Paranthas at Hindusthan Hotel (off NH2, Gurap, Hooghly) we reached Biharinath in the late afternoon.

Lotus in the ponds of Biharinath |
We stayed at the government accommodation of Biharinath Eco Tourism
Centre. It had only a lone caretaker, who arranged for some hot water
for bathing. The accommodation had a small kitchen and dining area and 4
cottages. Each cottage had 2 rooms, a living room and 2 bathrooms and
at less than Rs 900 was very cheap.

Tea being prepared at a tea and sweet shop |
In the evening, my friend and I
sat on two adjacent chairs in the
verandah of the forest cottage. Night had set in and out of the darkness
the hillock loomed large behind us in the moonlight..and with no sign
of any human life, excepting the lone caretaker, it was eerie. Snacks
was hard, bony chicken pakodas from a just cut country chicken and
dinner was dal,alu bhaja and chicken curry cooked over wooden
fire..Reminded me of the night when I returned solitarily from Tumling
to Tonglu in utter darkness.

Mustard fields |
The next day, after an undisturbed sleep, we had a breakfast of
Pooris and tea. Saw lotus flowers in the ponds, village women making their way through village paths and picnicking folks preparing their lunch
