Chicken Tangdi Kebab

One shop that always escaped my attention, well, until recently, is "Tandoor House". And there are reasons too. It exists beside a behemoth which prevailed with its taste and in the mind. I am talking about Bachan's Dhaba at Rashbehari Avenue. Whenever we thought of having "Dhaba Style" biryani, we used to Take Away from there.  Sometimes we used to gorge on Tandoori Rotis, Tikka Masala and Chicken Bharta. There were several other dishes that we liked from the place, but these remained the favourite for a long, long time. Especially the Roti, Kebab and Chicken Tikka Masala was my favourite to go with the beer.

After a long gap of,may be a couple of years, I went to Bachan's Dhaba yet again for the good ol' time tested menu. I ordered a Takeaway of Chicken Biryani and Chicken Tikka Butter Masala and stepped out owing to the surge of the crowd. And it was then that a small, innocuous shop located just beside Bachan's Dhaba caught my attention. There were only Tandooris and Kebabs that you would find there and they were hung from the skewers. Unlike its illustrious neighbour where you have to jostle for space, there was hardly anyone standing there. But this shop looked to be "classic" shop and I took back home a plate of Tangdi Kebabs that evening. Everyone at home relished those kebabs. The crusty exterior and its succulent interior. Brilliantly made!

I tried to make that in my home and though it was not a exact the same, but it tasted well.

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Marination Time: 8 hrs
Cooking Time: 22mins to 28 mins

 Ingredients:
  • .Chicken Drumsticks/Tangdi: 6. Make 3-4 deep gashes in the chicken legs.

 First Marinade:
  • Ginger Paste - 1.5 tbsp
  • Garlic Paste - 1.5 tbsp
  • Lemon squeeze from half a lemon
  • Salt

 Second Marinade:
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1.5 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - One pinch
  • Jeera Powder - 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri Red Chili Powder - 2 tsp
  • Curd: 30 gms
  • Mustard Oil: 5 tbsp
  • Salt: Only if required

Procedure:
  • Marinade the chicken drumsticks in the first marinade for 20 mins.
  • Then pour the second marinade onto the "marinaded" chicken and keep it for 6-8 hrs.
  • Set the oven to 240 C
  • Roast the chicken on one side for 12 mins.
  • Turnover the chicken legs, baste with the marinade and cook it in the other side for 10 mins.
  • Check whether the chicken is cooked.
  • If not, continue in the oven for 3-4 mins, depending upon the condition.

Thats it!
