The Last Hilsa Lunch of the Year!

I had promised not to buy any Hilsa after the Pujas.
But with the Diwali drum beats, crackers and lights "something good" for lunch was on the minds. We were to have a good time bursting patakas(crackers) and then feasting on Parantha(Bread) and Kosha Murgir Mangsho(Chicken Curry)  for dinner, but still wanted to have a tasty lunch.

The bazaar was hit hard by sky rocketing prices as expected and in all that the shop keeper pops up saying
"Dada Ilish neben? khub bhalo. janen ee to, bhalo na hole poisa ferot" (Will you buy Hilsa? It tastes great. In case it is not tasty, I will return back the money"). It was once earlier,a couple of years or more, he definitely did not return me back the money, but I returned him the Hilsa which I had bought the previous day and he gave me a new tasty one in return. From that day, till date, all the fishes which he offered me were of the best grade I daresay!

I bought and while buying it, I had promised to myself that this is going to be my last Hilsa of the year.

Since I was pretty sure there was no need to experiment with it. I prepared a Jhol(curry), the way we have it in our native place. It is the traditional Kalo Jeere Kacha Lanka Jhol(Nigella Seed, Green Chilli Based curry) but prepared with some more Kalo Jeere paste and Dry Red Chilli paste and rich in mustard oil. It definitely tastes more intense that the usual jhol.In it I added a few potato slices, cut length wise and it was a great way to have a Diwali lunch!

Since this is very similar to the Kalo Jeere Kacha Lanka jhol, I am not posting a separate recipe for it.However, In case you want to know about the recipe in detail, drop an email/message to me I will respond.

Thanks for reading!
