And now that I am heading back home with the cold air conditioner breeze and Pink Floyd for company, I am still reflecting on the crazy past 24 hours thanks to my Royal Enfield which malfunctioned more times in the past week than the past one year that it has been with me.
In the last 24 hours I have tavelled by auto rickshaw, rickshaw, car, cab, motor cycle, bus and on foot - dragging my motorcycle along with me; lashed by the rain, dried by the wind, scorched by the sun and now, kind of, the storm seems to have settled down.
Royally grounded by a Royal Enfield. Thats what I would like to call it.
And it all started with a trip to a relative's place yesterday. The Enfield suddenly melted down on the road and it simply refused to start. Nothing - kick or click could make it move.Dragged the beast for more than a kilometer, but nary a mechanic was found. Most shops had shut down as it was late and others did not have the expertise. Found one, who fixed it with a simple nut.
I was THRILLED!
Started it, and the beast roared back to life. We were back on the road - a little fearful though - should it breakdown again.
Clocked a couple of kms and then the worst of fears came true.
The Enfield died down yet again. There was no way looking back, the mechanic who fixed it, was quite faraway, started dragging the beast again.Pulling a 190+ kilo vehicle in stuffy humid heat, after a whole day in the office, is an out of the world experience to say the least.
But God was willing to help. And we did find help in Mithai shop. The proprietor left selling sweets and started repairing the wires which I had mangled in my effort to fix the beast. But he failed. He then took out his motorbike, went to a mechanic, closing down his shop, came back and it was finally fixed at 9-30 PM.The payment to the mechanic was made, but how to thank the sweet shop owner. Since we dont love sweets, so, the other alternative available - Ghee was bought! An ordeal, I daresay.
We did reach our kin's place. Had dinner and left the beast in their home lest it malfunctions again in the journey back home.Took a cab back home.
The next day, I went from office to my kin's place, took the motorcycle when I was lashed by the rain, dried by the wind, scorched by the sun to the Enfield Workshop. But sometimes fate makes a fool of you, the workshop was being renovated and they were not accepting any repairs. To hell with. Took my enfield back home in the rain.Had lunch bought from the streets. Dried myself up, and took a bus to office.Absolutely no point saving a couple of minutes by hiring a cab that would rake in 15 times more fare than a bus.
And now that I am driving my car back home I am left wondering now, incase the car breaks down, we have the 24 hours helpline to save us!
The mystery behind the car will remain a secret. Quite surely!
